JOB SUMMARY

Reports directly to the Program Manager, Section 504 and is assigned to the Regional Assistant Superintendent's Cluster. Provides leadership role in the facilitation of the Section 504 process. Facilitates team discussion in the initiation, review, re-evaluation and manifestation determination process for Section 504. Work includes completing Federal documents, maintaining appropriate files, creating reports to track student information and timelines. Oversees the Section 504 process and organizes relevant staff professional development within the assigned cluster.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures compliance with federal law under Section 504 by providing support to school-based Section 504 facilitators with initiation and modelling of process (determination to evaluate, eligibility for Section 504, the development of a 504 plan, implementation, monitoring of the process and manifestation determination).
  • Supports school-based teams with organization of timeline of the 504 process including referrals, consideration of outside reports, evaluations, annual reviews, re-evaluations and manifestation determinations.
  • Supports school-based 504 teams through referrals, observation of implementation needs, staff and facilitator training and issues discovered through data in the Tienet reporting system.
  • Supports school-based teams to initiate assistance from appropriate related service team members and effectively complete the evaluation process and plan development.
  • Supports school-based teams to document all aspects of student information, consent, eligibility, plan development, progress monitoring and manifestation determinations within Tienet database.
  • Ensures compliance with federal law under Section 504 by conducting audits of documents in Tienet and additional activities as apporrpiate,
  • Supports school-based teams to maintain Section 504 student files and materials in an orderly manner.
  • In conjunction with the Office of School Performance Director, travels between schools in the assigned cluster.
  • Assists Section 504 Program Manager with professional development.
  • Manages cluster data surrounding Section 504.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • Some College Level Courses completion of leadership workshops/courses preferred.

Experience

  • Five (5) years successful experience in teaching required.

  • In depth knowledge of the Section 504 law and process.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Licenses and Certifications


Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

  • Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Professional Eligibility Certificate (PEC) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
  • Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Administrator I Certificate issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) preferred.
  • Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.

  • Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
