Physical Therapist
St. Coletta of Greater Washington is a non-sectarian, nonprofit organization that supports individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and secondary disabilities. We are currently seeking a Physical Therapist who will be responsible for evaluating, planning, and administering physical therapy treatments to aid students’ physical, developmental, intellectual, and emotional habilitation.
Examples of Essential Functions:
Recommend, design, and assist in the procurement of adaptive equipment and assistive technology to help students meet their IEP goals.
Using an integrated service model, develop, coordinate, and implement individual physical therapy intervention plans that support the IEP goals and objectives.
Conduct comprehensive assessments and evaluations using a variety of assessment tools and resources; develop written evaluations.
May assist in planning developing, and presenting in-service physical therapy training programs; instruct in techniques and procedures in physical therapy; and prepare reports as required by the various jurisdictions.
Train classroom staff in the use of adaptive equipment such as walkers, standers, and positioning equipment.
Advise and ensure the development and follow-through of appropriate classroom adaptations to provide maximum learning and independence with mobility.
Educate students and their guardians/families on home exercises, self-care, and daily living activities, with emphasis on gross motor skill development and therapeutic exercise.
The ability to lift and position physically disabled individuals may be required.
Most tasks require oral communication, visual and hearing perception, and the ability to move around classrooms, cafeterias, gyms, facilities, etc.
Ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and brisk walking, and which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (45 lbs.).
The ability to keep up with running children and or to lift or assist with lifting students is essential.
Maintain confidentiality of personally identifiable information for parents, students, and staff.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in physical therapy, and a valid Physical Therapy (PT) license in the District of Columbia. Prior experience working with children with intellectual disabilities, autism, and/or multiple disabilities is a plus.
Ability to independently problem solve and navigate the steps needed to accomplish the tasks of the position.
Requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

St. Coletta of Greater Washington is a non-profit organization, which serves children and adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, or multiple disabilities. Our special education school serves students ages 3-22 years old. Each student has an IEP, and in addition to participating in classroom activities, is able to receive various forms of therapy on campus. Our core program includes: functional academics, skills of daily living, community based instruction, adaptive physical education, arts education, computer skills and vocational training. The school is located in Washington, DC, and community based instruction is an important part of the programming, as are activities focused on teaching vocational and life skills. Our Adult Programs offers adults ages 18 and older opportunities to participate in vocational / pre-vocational training, supported employment, life skills training, and community integration in order to achieve greater independence.
