Varsity Head Coach Boys Soccer – High School



Position Summary/Goal: The Head Coach will facilitate and enhance communication and collaboration between and among the Erie School District and parents, students, and community centers. The head soccer coach will promote a positive school culture, foster academic excellence and exemplify good character for the individual athlete.  Furthermore, the Erie School District expects the Head Coach to be a positive role model, a mentor to student-athletes, and embrace all concepts of good citizenship.
 
Term of Employment:   12 month position
School/Location:  Erie High School
Reporting Relationship:
  • Reports to Athletic Director & Building Administrator
  • May work on specific projects with program directors or building principals.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • High school varsity or college level soccer head coaching experience (minimum three years).
  • Evidence of leading a successful program with post-season coaching experience.
  • Ability to transition student athletes to the next competitive level (ability to articulate concrete examples and procedures regarding the transition of student athletes to the next competitive level).
  • Experience in coaching offense, defense, and goal keeping.
  • Evidence of practice plans developed in prior coaching positions.
  • Urban student experience a plus.
  • Must hold or obtain FBI, Criminal Check, and Child Abuse Clearances.
  • Working knowledge of Erie School District policies, procedures, and organizational structure.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current trends, tactics, strategies, and skills of the sport.
 
Special Requirements:
 
  • Must complete all Coaching Evaluation requirements of the PIAA and PDE in a timely manner.
  • Work Environment:  School and office with frequent travel between schools, and various locations within the Erie Community.  Occasional travel to relevant meetings outside of the District.
  • Host and attend parent meeting prior to the start of official season.
 
 
Performance Responsibilities:
 
  • Instruct student athletes in the fundamentals of soccer – including the rules of the game and the proper training techniques.
  • Plan and carry out daily practice plans.
  • Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide individual and team development.
  • Supervise all practices and games.
  • Develop a feeder system through the entire soccer program, coordinating with the junior varsity and middle school programs.  Facilitate clinics with elementary schools to promote fundamentals of soccer.
  • Promote, maintain, and ensure high academic standards for all athletes. Monitor academic progress for student athletes, securing academic support when needed.
  • Leader of the coaching tree from HS through Middle School.  Ensuring that coaching tactics, fundamentals, offensive/defensive strategies, and soccer language are fluid throughout all boys soccer programs.
  • Promote good sportsmanship and serve as a positive role model for student athletes.
  • Maintain and review transportation and meals for away games.
  • Maintain positive communication with athletes, families, community members, and district administration.
  • Agree to the demanding time commitment in the off-season, as well as regular season, to ensure the continuous improvement of the soccer program.
  • Adhere to guidelines, rules, and procedures set forth by the PIAA.
  • Establish and maintain collegiate relationships to promote recruitment of the student athlete.
  • Maintain NCAA Clearinghouse for athletes by utilizing the District procedures.
  • Develop and maintain an academic monitoring plan for student athletes.
  • Responsible for season ordering, collection, and inventory of equipment and uniforms through the soccer program.
  • Participate in special activities to include parent nights, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  • Assist in the evaluation of Middle School Coaches and JV Head Coach.
  • Develop and monitor expectations for athletic participation.
  • Update game standings and Varsity Soccer page on the EPS website.
  • Maintain the soccer HUDL accounts for the district.
 
 
Off-Season
  • Attend and work program fundraisers.
  • Organize off-season open gym/weight room sessions, practice plans, and instruction.
 
Other Duties
  • Attend staff meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director & Principal or other appropriate administrator.

Evaluation:  Evaluation conducted at the end of the season by Director of Athletics and/or Building Administrator.
