Assistant Special Education Supervisor
 
JOB GOAL:  To facilitate the provision of special education and exceptional student services to Erie’s Public Schools students, while maintaining an efficient and effective level of compliance consistent with State and Federal mandates
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Valid PA Supervisor of Special Education certification or PA Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility/ Principal Certification
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Special Education regulations and federal laws governing services to students with disabilities
  • Five years or more of teaching experience with special needs learners
  • Experience with Special Education Early Intervention and Kindergarten transition IEPs preferred
  • Demonstrate knowledge of best practices pertaining to interventions and supports for diverse student populations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, professional and paraprofessional staff
  • Demonstrated leadership in the field of special education
 
REPORTS TO:  Director of Pupil Services or Designee
 
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Assist with supervision and coordination of Special Education, Gifted, and Speech programming and personnel
  • Coordinate services for Sec 504 eligible students 
  • Coordinate services for the Extended School year (ESY)
  • Respond to parents, community agencies, local educational agency administrators, professional staff members, and students in relation to the provision of special education services within Erie’s Public Schools
  • Oversee the implementation of procedures/processes mandated by Pennsylvania Chapter 14, Chapter 15 and Chapter 16 relative to eligibility and continuing eligibility, for individualized educational program plans and student service plans
  • Act as LEA for IEP and GIEP meetings as needed; attend IEP, GIEP, and/or 504 meetings as needed
  • Attend building level meetings as related to students who are “thought to be exceptional”
  • Facilitate intake and placement process of new students with IEPs, GIEPs or 504 plans entering Erie’s Public Schools; review documentation and follow appropriate procedures to provide FAPE
  • Attend administrative, departmental staff, and building meetings
  • Provide leadership in professional development opportunities to enhance use of best practices within the district
  • Assume responsibility for professional growth and development, keeping current with legal trends, research findings, and best practices, by attending professional conferences and meetings
  • Observe teachers, students and classrooms as needed and make recommendations regarding instruction and placement
  • Participate in dispute mediation conferences relative to the provision of services to students who have or may be eligible for individualized education plans student service plans
  • Meet with groups of professional, paraprofessionals, administrators, parents, agencies and advocacy groups as needed
  • Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  260-day work year, vacation, holidays, and salary in accordance with the Erie School District Administrators Association Agreement.
 
EVALUATION:  Performance of this job evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
