The Developmental Trainee Program is designed to provide training to qualified custodians who are aspiring to be Head Engineers within the Minnetonka Public Schools.  Developmental Trainees will be required to accomplish and pass related online, hands-on, and classroom training to enhance technical skills.  The hiring decision for this position will be based on competencies and will be determined based on work and experience records, test ratings, interviews, performance evaluations, and recommendations.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  1. Works with head engineer to handle special requests and to perform daily operations.
  2. Works with all trades with an emphasis on cross training in that particular field in order to fill in for any position or shift, including nights and weekends, within the Buildings and Grounds Department
  3. Inspects, monitors, and maintains the facilities heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, security, fire alarm and emergency lighting systems. 
  4. Performs maintenance and equipment repairs. 
  5. Monitors the performance of the custodial staff, provides work direction and training to all custodial staff in the facility, and reviews custodial assignments.
  6. Coordinates and performs grounds maintenance duties such as mowing, grass  trimming, tree and brush trimming, snow removal, and cleaning up debris.
  7. Cleans, repairs, tests, and operates steam or hot water boilers, water heaters, compressors and other pressure vessels in accordance with Minnesota State Statutes. 
  8. Coordinates the receiving and distribution of supplies and equipment within the school. This includes the operation of the District delivery truck. 
  9. Keeps a proper inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies.
  10. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Job Qualifications:
  1. Evidence of excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
  2. Evidence of a special engineer boiler operator's license or the ability to obtain the license within 30 days of accepting the position
  3. Requires a 2nd class boiler license as soon as the regulations allow. 
  4. Required to obtain a certified pool operator’s license.
  5. Willingness to obtain a 1st class boiler operator’s license as soon as regulations allow. 
  6. High school graduate or GED
  7. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  8. Basic computer skills for operation of a personal computer, energy management system and tank monitoring systems. 
  9. Detail oriented with demonstrated ability to organize and maintain records
  10. Demonstrated accurate mathematical skills
  11. Customer service oriented with positive interpersonal skills
  12. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both written and orally
  13. Strong leadership skills.
  14. Demonstrated ability to effectively successfully complete a pre-placement physical capabilities examination at Concentra at the District's expense.
