Assignment:                
30 - 40 hours per week, 10-14 weeks, mid-May through mid-August
Flexible schedule including some weekends.

Salary:                          
Starting at $15 per hour
Not medical or dental benefit eligible. 
 
Primary Objective of Internship:
Gain valuable hands-on experience in planning, supervising, implementing and evaluating a variety of youth recreation programs, including T-ball, tennis, park programs, sports camps and teen adventure programs, as well as large annual events: the Minnewashta Mud Run (July 12, 2025), and the Tour de Tonka bike ride (August 2, 2025). Orientation, training and mentoring is provided. 
  • Work with a variety of age groups: preschool, youth, teens
  • Develop leadership and management skills
  • Develop public relations and customer service skills
  • Gain experience working in a collaborative environment
  • Apply coursework and theory in a large, fast-paced and comprehensive recreation program


Internship Responsibilities:
  1. Participate in program management, including program development, scheduling, budgeting, marketing, registration, facilities management, and staffing.
  2. Assist in supervising and providing guidance for participants in summer youth programs, camps and special events.
  3. Participate in planning, preparation of, and leading age-appropriate activities and staff trainings.
  4. Establish a positive and friendly relationship with participants.
  5. Assist in the supervision and training of program staff.
  6. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  7. Participate in mock interview at the conclusion of the internship.

Requirements:
  1. Pursuing B.A. or B.S. in recreation, youth development, or a related degree; or current enrollment in a recreation, sports management, leisure studies, or community education degree program at an accredited college or university; juniors and seniors preferred.
  2. Successful experience in youth recreation and passion for working with youth
  3. Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills; ability to relate to both children and adults and work in a team setting.
  4. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work with a minimum of supervision.
  5. Evidence of ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  6. Proven record of punctuality and responsibility.
  7. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  8. Must have reliable form of transportation.
  9. Current certification in CPR and first aid, or willingness to acquire (training will be provided for selected candidates not already certified.)
