Job Overview

LCPS BEAM Summer Math Discovery is a program for middle school students run during the summer out of the Academies of Loudoun. Teachers will inspire LCPS BEAM Summer Math Discovery students as they explore new fields of mathematics. Teachers will teach ready-made courses provided by BEAM. Teachers will also guide students through problem solving activities during Open Math Time (OMT). Teachers will continue to mentor students who completed the LCPS BEAM Summer Math Discovery program throughout the following school year.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.

  • Prepare and lead one to two courses over the entirety of the summer program
  • Guide students during Open Math Time during the summer program 
  • Serve as mentors to LCPS BEAM students throughout the 25 - 26 school year

 

Qualifications

Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.

 

     Education 

     Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or college.

 

     Experience

     Experience as a classroom teacher.

 

     Licenses and Certifications

     Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license required, with an endorsement in mathematics or other STEM related field preferred.

 

     Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mathematical content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills

 

 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary: Banded Rate, Band 15, $39.14/hourly

Months/Days/Hours: This is a part-time, non-benefited, hourly position. No guarantee of minimum hours.

Reports To: Supervisor,  Math Office
