Position Overview

 

Provides and is accountable for the planning, instruction, assessment, communication, interpersonal relations, safety, and management of a Dual-Language Immersion classroom. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.

  • Plan and implement a Dual Language Immersion instructional program that provides appropriate learning experiences for each student.
  • Establish a safe and supportive learning environment that allows each student to demonstrate agency, ownership, and reflection
  • Design and implement authentic and engaging learning experiences using the Virginia Standards of Learning and the LCPS curriculum to maximize student achievement using a variety of tools and instructional resources
  • Personalize instruction based on the needs of students
  • Assess student growth and progress related to educational goals, objectives, and outcomes
  • Adhere to the LCPS Grading and Assessment policies and regulations
  • Monitor and support student behavior (took out some of this bullet)
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, students, and community members to promote and support student learning
  • Direct the work of teaching assistants, student teachers, and volunteers
  • Participate in the school’s professional learning community to deepen the understanding of curriculum, content, competencies, assessment, and the developmental needs of students.

Education

 

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess or be eligible for a Collegiate Professional, Postgraduate Professional, or Provisional license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Elementary endorsement required; Spanish endorsement is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Effective written and oral communication in both Spanish and English
  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, and pedagogy of elementary-level instruction
  • Excellent academic language model in Spanish (Native or Native-like; all applicants will be required to take a language competency exam.)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

 

This position is based out of Sanders Corner Elementary School and Potowmack Elementary School.

 

FLSA status: Exempt

Months/Days/Hours: 10 months, 197 days, 7 hours per day

Reports to: Principal or Assistant Principal
