This position is responsible for providing leadership and expertise to schools and teachers as they work collaboratively to ensure academic achievement and accelerated language development for all English learners (EL). This position is very knowledgeable in research-based instructional strategies, second language acquisition, WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards, instructional frameworks, sheltered instructional approaches. This position has experience in the practical application of EL appropriate instructional strategies resulting in student performance. This position is a professional developer, teacher mentor or coach for teaching and administrative staff to support implementation of effective planning and delivery. This position will provide job-embedded support and professional development on effective instructional planning and delivery of content to EL in special programs, while simultaneously developing EL English proficiency by addressing the listening, speaking, reading, and writing WIDA ELD Standards adopted by the Commonwealth of Virginia. This position will provide professional development and support on co-teaching techniques for any ESOL, Special Education and content teachers who will be co-teaching; and how to differentiate instruction to ensure that EL-readiness levels, interests, and learning profiles are addressed in both sheltered pull-out and inclusive settings. This position will assist teachers to develop academic literacy, instruct academic vocabulary aligned with the core content curriculum, implement strategies for reading development and comprehension, incorporate ESL methodologies, and implement formative and summative assessments within the context of standards-based instruction. This position will provide assistance in incorporating requirements from No Child Left Behind Title III Part A, Equal Education Opportunities Act, the Division Strategic Plan, and school and teacher goals to ensure that all English language learners achieve in Prince William County Public Schools.
