This position plans and implements an instructional program and provides adapted physical education services for students K-12. This position manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, modifies instructional activities as required, and carries out a variety of student monitoring and control activities. This position is a certified teacher who provides physical education services for special education students ages 5- 21, when these services are needed for a student to benefit from the physical education program. Adapted Physical Education is generally defined as a diversified program of developmental activities, games, sports and rhythms, suited to the interests, capacities and limitations of students with disabilities who may not safely or successfully participate in the activities of the general physical education program. This position analyzes strengths and weaknesses and prepares an intervention plan to maximize student educational performance. This position collaborates with team members to provide therapeutic interventions, environmental adaptations, and instructional modifications to support student achievement in the educational setting. This position performs work under the general supervision of a principal and special education administrative coordinator.
