TEACHER TUTOR (Must be a certified teacher) This is a part time position with no benefits.
QUALIFICATIONS: United States citizen or authorized alien; those teacher requirements as outlined in the Louisiana Bulletin 746. (Louisiana Standards of State Certification of School Personnel); Physical and mental stamina and ability to perform job functions, tasks and duties; Administrative or teacher coaching experience. RESPONSIBLE TO: School Principal JOB GOALS: To provide high quality instruction and just-in-time tutoring for students performing one or more grade level(s) below their peers. To use best practices tutoring strategies, such as the Accelerate strategy – Diagnose, Plan, Deliver, and Monitor – to increase student performance in core academic areas.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
To collaborate with classroom teachers to diagnose and identify students’ skills deficits.
To host initial meeting with individual or groups of students to glean information about their interest, learning styles, and the extent of their knowledge with the content.
To develop and maintain a weekly tutoring schedule based on the allotted time designated by the school principal.
To develop individualized tutoring plans to meet the needs of individual students based on data from diagnostic assessments, progress monitoring, and growth monitoring checks.
To work with individual reading students to develop power goals in both reading and writing as it relates to classroom instruction, the components of reading, and the reading foundational skills.
To create or develop activity-based learning techniques to build student interest in the content area, i.e., reading, mathematics, science, or social studies.
To incorporate technology into standard reading or instructional practices to help students develop interest in various aspects of the content, as well as to prepare students for virtual or distance learning requirements.
To conduct weekly or biweekly progress monitoring and growth check assessments to monitor student growth in identified deficit areas.
To review students’ data with classroom teachers to gauge the effectiveness of the literacy and/or tutoring strategy and to determine if a change in strategy is necessary.
To provide students, parents, and the classroom teacher detailed feedback on students’ progress/growth.
To assist students in deficit areas by providing them with one-on-one sessions specifically targeting the particular areas.
To provide support with homework in a manner that extends the students’ understanding and interest as it relates to classroom instruction.
To review content with students to help improve study skills and organization techniques across all content areas in the effort to improve their overall academic performance.
To maintain confidentiality of student records and test scores.
To maintain a positive attitude and work harmoniously with the schools and communities.
To observe and keep records of classroom visits, and maintain all records related to the above responsibilities.
To maintain a positive, professional appearance which adheres to the St. Martin Parish dress code.
Assumes other related responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor and the Superintendent.
