Description

Lakewood is currently seeking a part-time Social Skills Specialist to work in an interdisciplinary manner with the school team. Specifically, the Social Skills Specialist will: 
  • Provide leadership and direction to the social curriculum program
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate social skills curriculum across grade levels, from Kindergarten to 8th grade
  • Use assessments to track students’ social development
  • Integrate social communication goals into classroom activities
  • Collaborate with teachers on specialized strategies for use directly within classrooms
  • Work collaborative with an interdisciplinary team that includes the social learning specialist, OT, Behavior Specialist, and educators
  • Support literacy programs in the school
  • Participate fully as a school staff member: attend faculty meetings, parent meetings and professional development opportunities
Desired Qualifications 
We are seeking a highly motivated professional with a proven track-record of success serving intellectually curious students with unique learning needs. 
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Speech and Language, Special Education or related field preferred
  • Three to five years of experience working with children diagnosed with ASD, preferably in schools
  • Strong enjoyment working with children
  • Experienced with social skills instruction and implementation of evidence-based curriculums, Michelle Garcia-Winner's Social Thinking curriculum and social assessments preferred
  • Knowledge of language disorders to include delays, disorders, or processing issues in expressive/receptive language as well as social/interactive communication
  • Able to collaborate with team members to ensure the best program for student
  • Ability to use classroom management strategies for successful large group activities
  • Very strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Record of success in previous positions as evidenced by excellent references
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Technologically adept and enthusiastic
  • Able to design and conduct staff training
