TITLE:HEAD START TEACHER ASSISTANT
REPORTS TO: Assigned Lead Teacher QUALIFICATIONS: CDA Credential or state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential;or enrolled in a program that leads to certification
JOB GOAL: To assist the teacher in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports to and dismisses from school at the times designed.
Attends inservice sessions as scheduled by the supervisor, principal and director.
Works effectively in organizing and maintaining students’ records and progress reports under the supervision of the teacher.
Assists the teacher, by providing tutorial individualized instruction on a one-to-one or small group basis when directed to by the teacher.
Assists the teacher with instructional tasks: bulletin board, AV equipment, clerical, center materials, and clean-up.
Is knowledgeable of the literacy and language process, skills and materials utilized in the instructional program and interacts with children based upon this knowledge.
Observes parish policies regarding punctuality and absenteeism.
Assisting with the maintenance of individual student portfolios including the collection of work samples, anecdotal notes and checklists.
Assists with maintaining an orderly learning environment which is conducive to learning.
Assisting with the supervision of students both indoors and outdoors.
Provides effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions
Plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment
Promote children’s progress across the Head Start Early Learning Outcome Framework: Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards, including children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate
Assumes other related responsibilities as assigned by the principal/immediate supervisor.
Abides by the rules and regulations found in the St. Martin Parish Policy Handbook.
