PRIMARY FUNCTION: The primary function of the Elementary School Assistant Principal is to provide support and assistance to the Principal in the development and implementation of procedures which will result in the maximum utilization of staff, materials, and facilities as they relate to students in Grades K-5, and the achievement of the objectives of the District.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. State of Illinois Professional Educator License – General Administrative K- 12 Endorsement
2. Minimum of three years of previous experience as a building assistant principal, preferably in an urban school setting.
3. Evidence of instructional leadership with a strong commitment to academic excellence with high expectations of students and staff.
4. Must have a thorough knowledge of elementary curriculum and curriculum development.
5. Strong background in Reading with experience with RTI & Data Analysis.
6. Four years of teaching experience at the elementary level preferred.
7. Highly effective interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills.
8. Creativity, flexibility and high energy level.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Proven record of dynamic educational leadership, including excellent interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff and parents; strong background in elementary curriculum, instruction, and special education; successful administrative or teaching experience; ability to be a part of an effective management team; ability to work well in a professional community with high expectations for its students and schools

6. Coordinates the curriculum within the building.
7. Monitors student progress continually.

10. Utilize, proven, research-based strategies to improve student performance.
11. Assists in the direction and supervision of the educational program and the supportive services within the school within the policy structure of the District and the District Administration.
12. Oversees staff efforts to provide results-oriented strategies for students.
13. Prepares and monitors budget appropriately according to building needs.
14. Develops and implements duty rosters, which provide for the supervision of halls, cafeteria, arrival, and departure of students and other related extra-curricular activities by certified staff.
15. Interprets and utilizes available data to drive instruction actives.
16. Organizes and arranges field trips.
17. Identifies and provides areas for staff development.
18. Remains current in most effective practices and services for students.
19. Participates in the planning and presentation of the regularly scheduled faculty meetings.
20. Performs all other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

4. Assists in the development and revision of building administrative procedures by submitting through the Building Principal suggested alterations, additions and/or deletions.

7. Organizes and supervises all after school functions in the school.
8. Fosters a positive, service-oriented atmosphere in the school office.

4. Communicates effectively with students, parents, staff, and community.
5. Makes personnel assignments that maximize staff strengths.
6. Cooperates with staff in the development and supervises the implementation of student management procedures, which will contribute to the effectiveness of the educational climate in the school and are consistent with the District discipline guidelines and procedures.
