SUPERVISOR, FLEET MAINTENANCE
Purpose Statement:
The job of Supervisor, Fleet Maintenance is done for the purpose/s of supervising the overhaul, maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair programs for gasoline and diesel powered buses, automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other District vehicles; and maintaining adequate staffing to ensure objectives are achieved within budget.
This job reports to Director, Transportation

Essential Functions
• Analyzes fleet maintenance requirements for the purpose of determining immediate and long term fleet maintenance needs to ensure that students and staff are safe, making recommendations, and maximizing use of available funds.

• Collaborates with other district personnel, regulatory agencies and outside vendors for the purpose of providing information necessary for making decisions regarding fleet maintenance requirements.

• Implements employee safety training and safety programs for the purpose of ensuring safety standards are consistently maintained with regard to District equipment.

• Inspects vehicles and other mechanical equipment used by the District for the purpose of ensuring compliance with safety and California Highway Patrol Motor Carrier regulations and/or maintaining District equipment in proper working order.

• Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. preventive maintenance program, time/material costs, contracts, budget, inspections, personnel records, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.

• Monitors fleet maintenance requirements (e.g. emission testing program, inspects, diagnoses, repairs gas/diesel vehicles, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that work is performed within required timeframes, at reasonable cost and in accordance safe work practices.

• Prepares written materials (e.g. reports, memos, letters, procedures, manuals, cost estimates, specifications, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.

• Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions (e.g. equipment purchases, specifications, budget, personnel needs, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction that ensures efficient operation of vehicle maintenance programs and regulatory compliance.

• Researches a variety of topics (e.g. specifications, grant funds, etc.) for the purpose of making recommendations regarding purchases and/or investigating alternate funding sources.

• Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

• Supervises vehicle maintenance activities and assigned personnel (e.g. schedules, evaluates, trains, recommends hiring, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring department functions are performed efficiently and in conformance with required safety and regulatory standards.

Other Functions
• Assists other personnel for the purpose of ensuring and efficient an effective work environment.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including pertinent software; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; organizing and communicating information and concepts; and diagnosis equipment.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: air conditioning; diesel/gas engines mechanics; automatic and manual transmission repairs; tire maintenance and repairs; diagnosis equipment; and emission testing and repairs.

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working under time constraints; working with constant and sustained interruptions; and communicating with diverse groups.

Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; directing other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; and directing the use of budgeted funds within a work unit. Utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the Organization’s services.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions and in varying atmospheric conditions.

Experience Job related experience within specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Education Community College and/or Vocational School degree with study in job related area.
