JOB DESCRIPTION

Assistant Principal/Vice Principal

Primary Function: To assist the principal in carrying out the administration and management responsibilities of the total school program.

Directly Responsible to: Principal

Immediate Subordinates: Counselors, health clerks, teachers assistants, instructional aides, and secretarial and clerical staff, as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Performs, as designated by the principal, the duties of the principal in the principal's absence.

2. Plans, organizes, and directs the counseling, guidance, health, standardized testing, and articulation and orientation programs for the school.

3. Assists the principal in the selection, assignment, training, and evaluation of all assigned staff.

4. Prepares, and recommends to the principal, the master schedule including teaching and facility assignments.

5. Coordinates with the Computers and Technology Services Department all pupil service activities of the school in which electronic data processing is utilized.

6. Assists the principal and department chairpersons in curriculum development and evaluation to meet the needs of the students.

7. Provides overall supervision and direction to the interscholastic athletics program and acts as the athletic league representative for the school.

8. Maintains close and frequent contacts with students, teachers, parents, and other staff members in the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

9. Establishes and maintains liaison with law enforcement, probation, welfare, and other public and private agencies to enlist their cooperation in matters affecting student attitudes and behavior.

10. Plans and directs all recordkeeping and reporting related to student achievement, scholarship grades, test scores, health histories, attendance, discipline, and related areas. Directs the preparation of the Federal Student Survey under PL 874.

11. Develops and maintains the school's master calendar.

12. Acts as resource person to class sponsors, ASB adviser, and other staff members upon request.

13. Assists in the supervision of extracurricular activities.

14. Assists the principal and the faculty in development and enforcement of regulations for student discipline and control in keeping with policies established by the Governing Board.

15. Plans and directs a program for supervision of students engaged in extracurricular activities including assemblies, dances, and athletic contests; plans and directs a program for supervision of students at all times when they are on campus but not under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher; selects and assigns faculty members for student supervision activities.

16. Performs investigative services and gathers all the necessary data which may be required in the exemption, exclusion, expulsion, or suspension of students in accordance with the Education Code and District policies.

17. Coordinates student placement with the continuation school.

18. Develops and implements regulations and procedures for operation of vehicles, oncampus parking, fire drills, locker assignment, and vandalism reporting.

19. Assists the principal in establishing and maintaining an effective program of community relations.

20. Coordinates all registration activities and authorizes all intradistrict transfers.

21. Assists the principal in developing the local school budget.

22. Assists the principal in developing and implementing the summer school program.

23. Coordinates the school bus transportation program.

24. Provides guidance for students in all publications including yearbook, school handbook, and school paper.

25. Assists in the coordination of all graduation activities.

26. When assigned, provides service as the ROP Program Specialist.

27. Performs other job related duties as assigned by the principal
