TITLE: EARLY HEAD START TEACHER/CAREGIVER
REPORTS TO: Center Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
CDA Credential or state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the
requirements for a CDA credential; Associate’s or Higher in Early Childhood or related field; or have
equivalent coursework in early childhood education.
JOB GOAL: To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment in which students can take full advantage
of the instructional program and available resource materials.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Set-up, clean up classrooms daily and monthly for environment changes;
? Establish and maintain standards of student behavior/control required to achieve an effective learning environment;
? Provide appropriate instruction and activities for all children, including children with special needs to meet agency goals;
? Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve
health, attitude and learning problems;
? Feed all infants on demand;
? Communicate regularly with parents regarding child’s progress:
? Document all baselines, ongoing assessments according to assessment tool used by agency
? Conduct parent/teacher conferences and at least two home each year visits for purpose of assessment and support, and to
share information on child’s progress and educational strategies at school and at home;
? Refer children suspected of having special needs or challenging behavior to appropriate staff;
? Assist in ensuring that daily hygiene needs are met;
? Attend and provide information on children during family support team meetings;
? Prepare and submit appropriate and required reports; ADA daily attendance, and meal count forms;
? Complete and maintain all necessary documentation to demonstrate compliance with Head Start Performance Standards;
? Promote positive, professional relationships with parents;
? Follow health and safety procedures for hand washing, diapering, handling bodily fluids, sanitizing toys and equipment,
administering medication, serving bottles and food, dealing with children's illnesses, and supervision of children;
? Monitor and report signs of child abuse;
? Attend meetings, trainings, and appropriate professional development activities;
? Arrange indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative plan, motor-skill activities, and safety; and
? Assumes other related responsibilities as assigned by the center director/immediate supervisor.
? Abides by the rules and regulations found in the St. Martin Parish Policy Handbook.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 207 days
ACCOUNTABILITY: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy on Evaluation
of Personnel.
The superintendent reserves the right to review, revise, update, or change the job and any/all duties due to changes in job content,
organizational structure, or state or federal laws.
