 Job Overview

This is a construction technician work in support of school system construction projects. An employee in this class is responsible for performing field observations and evaluations of school construction projects for compliance with plans, specifications and applicable standards. The work requires an understanding of the functions of various trades and of construction practices to ensure that standards are met and to discuss job status and problems. Experienced workers in this position initiate their own daily assignments, follow through on matters, and use independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations. This position is under the supervision of a Senior Project Manage and reports to the Construction Supervisor.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.

 

  • Performs construction site observations and evaluations for compliance of all trades with the drawings, specifications and code regulations; prepares daily progress reports of all activities at job sites using project management information software.
  • Monitors the project construction schedule.
  • Communicates with general contractors, architects and engineers to coordinate information for assigned projects.
  • Advises the Senior Project Manager relative to proposed changes and field alterations to projects.
  • Attends progress meetings with contractors and the architect to support the resolution of issues.
  • Works with local and State inspection agencies to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Works with the school’s suppliers to resolve problems, schedule deliveries, and follow up on delivery schedules.
  • Coordinates activities with contractors and project schedules to obtain on-time utility connections at job sites.

 

Qualifications

Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.

 

     Education

     Associates degree in Construction Technology, Construction Technology or Business Administration 

 

     Experience

     Five years of project management experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training to demonstrate the standards, concepts, and guidelines to perform the responsibilities of the position

 

     Licenses and Certifications

     Valid Driver’s License

 

     Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance principles and practices as applied to school facilities; school building operating systems and maintenance requirements
  • Ability to prepare scopes of work and specifications suitable for the solicitation of school facilities operation and maintenance contracts and capital asset repair and replacement contracts; to maintain accurate and complete records; to apply standards and codes to varying maintenance situations
  • Must be skilled and proficient in the use of standard office computer software systems and have a working knowledge of and/or experience using computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Good human relations and communication skills

Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Salary Range: $61,929 -$79,783
