TITLE:

Permanent Substitute Teacher/Campus Aide

 

 POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Principal or their designee, the campus aide provides supervision and direction to students in areas of the school campus and maintains classroom continuity to ensure that students continue to learn in their teacher’s absence in order to promote a safe environment for students and staff during classroom and non-classroom activities and to deliver Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

INSTRUCTION TIME

  • Implement daily substitute lesson plans.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom implements rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom.
  • Remain calm, efficient, and positive.
  • Supervise students in the classroom as well as in other settings (i.e. lunch, recess, etc.).
  • Ensure the health and safety of students in their care.
  • Work with small groups to support their learning, as needed.
  • Respond to any questions from students and provide support and guidance
  • Deal with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school's policies and procedures.
  • Implement all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom implements rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom.

NON-INSTRUCTION TIME

  • Supervises students at lunchtime and maintains a positive and safe atmosphere.
  • Circulates throughout the cafeteria during mealtime. Helps students by opening packages and milk cartons.
  • Cleans up spills and provides additional assistance as needed.
  • Assists students through the cafeteria line in an orderly fashion.
  • Ensures students are orderly and acting appropriately.
  • Assists staff in lunchroom clean-up.
  • Interacts with students to maintain order and provide assistance when needed.
  • Adheres to the routines outlined in the school’s Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) plan as it pertains to the cafeteria.
  • Directs movement of students to and from the cafeteria and classrooms in a safe and organized manner.
  • Reports disciplinary and other concerns to the building administrator and/or classroom teacher.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate
    safety concerns.
  • Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to the supervisor.
  • Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students.
  • Assists with student’s arrival and dismissal procedures. 
  • Monitors hallways and/or bathrooms.

SAFETY & SECURITY

  • Monitor video surveillance systems on a daily basis; report all malfunctions and make appropriate recommendations for enhancements, needs, etc.
  • Perform building security checks daily, report breaking of security to Building Administration, Head Custodian, and Facilities Manager.
  • Assist in lockdown drills and any other security procedures.
  • Assist with interior/ exterior building supervision (common areas, hallways, parking lots, athletic fields).
  • Assist Administrators when needed to perform locker searches, restrain students, supervise students, and conduct investigations.
  • Monitor in-house suspension, after-school suspension, and other student supervision assignments as needed.
  • Attend dances, proms, and extracurricular activities as needed.
  • Investigate reports of theft, vandalism, security breaches, etc. as assigned by the Administration.

OTHER

  • Attend professional development and/or training as required by the District and/or supervisor.
  • Other reasonable duties as directed by the Building Principal and/or their designee.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and is required to traverse throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is expected to lift at least 30 lbs. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students. At times the employee will be exposed to students who are emotionally and/or physically dysregulated.

Building Principal and/or their designee.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

 

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION:

This position is classified as Non-Exempt 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Covered under Framingham School Committee Policy.

197 days per year 7 hours per day 

Hourly Rate for FY 22: $20 per hour 4 sick days per year
