STARTING WAGE: $18.25/hr
SUMMARY: Drives bus to transport students over specified routes according to time schedule. Complies with all traffic regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.
- Drives a school bus safely and professionally with student safety as a first priority.
- Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip inspections, including forms required prior to every trip.
- Complies with all traffic ordinances.
- Complies with discipline policies set forth in the School Code of Conduct for Transportation.
- Participates in on-site training.
- Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school bus.
- Identify with geographic service area of the school district.
- Present a positive image as a representative of the school district.
- Drive established routes and stop only at designated bus stops.
- Allow only authorized persons to ride.
- Report bus accidents and student injuries to Supervisor in writing.
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills in keeping with school policies.
- Make every effort to report absences in time for supervisor to secure substitute driver.
- Provide maps and directions for use by substitute drivers.
- Perform bus cleaning duties (internal and external) on a daily basis.
- Fuel bus on a daily basis.
- Report bus defects to appropriate personnel.
- Instruct riders about bus safety and being responsible passengers.
- Drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises students while transporting them.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Must have a good driving record and able to pass physical including drug test and random drug testing throughout employment.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License. Must pass State Skill Test and State Written Test. Must meetall school bus driver certification and licensing requirements for the State of Michigan.
GENERAL
Must exhibit reliability, punctuality, dependability, honesty, and self-motivation.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to pass State Skill Test, State Written Test, Department of Transportation physical and MDE Basic Training Program. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee frequently repeats the same hand, arm or finger motion many times. The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee is continuously driving on the job. On routes requiring lifting of students, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move students (weight varying). Specific vision abilities required by this job
include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100o and below 32 and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.
