CalWest Required Qualifications
- ABachelor’s Degreeand/or other educational requirements listed on the job description
- Requisite skills commensurate with the position
- A reasonable commuting distance to the CalWest client school, or a willingness to relocate
- Authorization to live and work in the United States
Client School Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in music education or performance from an accredited college or university.
- Min. of 3 years’ experience teaching various grade levels in a K-12 school. An IB school is preferred.
- Experience in the IB framework, especially MYP or PYP, and proven understanding of the inquiry-based, interdisciplinary approach.
- Ability to instruct a range of instruments and/or vocal ensembles.
- Familiarity with digital music production software preferred.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends on occasion.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus (internal and external).
- Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the school.
- High energy, self-starter with the ability to successfully prioritize and multi-task in an atmosphere in which time sensitive deadlines are the norm, as are interruptions
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Arts Department and IB team to assess and develop a curriculum that is consistent with the IB years programme.
- Provide both general music classes (which might focus on a broad range of musical skills, composition, and theory) and ensemble-based instruction (like choir, band, or orchestral groups).
- Meet after school one to two times per week to rehearse for after-school events.
- Prepare performances for seasonal concerts, chapel services, pep rallies, sporting and other school events.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom within the limitations of class size and the resources provided.
- Evaluate each student’s academic growth and personal well-being, communicating with parents through a variety of means.
- Serve as a Faculty Advisor to a group of middle school students.
- Participate in rotational supervisory duties with other faculty members.
- Ensure that the school community is notified of upcoming performing arts events.
- Support the School and its mission.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School, Head of Middle School, and their assignees.
