Burlington High School seeks a dynamic team member to join the Student Support Team at BHS as a Campus Safety Assistant. This position recognizes the value of positive school relationships and uses restorative practices to engage students in their learning.  The Campus Safety and Student Engagement Support position will utilize a team-based approach to build collaborative relationships among teachers, students, and administrators, and will work with the assistant principals and school personnel to support students who are struggling with attendance and engagement.

The Essential Functions of this position include:

  1. Support students in getting to class on time, remaining in class for the duration of the period, and monitor hallways, bathrooms, and other gathering areas for students cutting class.
  2. Assist Student Support Team, Administrative Team, and Faculty/Staff in facilitating flow and supervision during passing periods between classes.
  3. Provide campus supervision, including library, study hall, and cafeteria supervision
    1. Monitor students who have been assigned In-School suspension
  4. Build connections with students who are experiencing roadblocks to support positive engagement in school.
    1. Develop and implement proactive disciplinary interventions for students with attendance and discipline problems
    2. Respond to discipline referrals and provide restorative support to students, teachers, and families
    3. Inform school administrators of student behavior concerns.
  5. Log discipline infractions, including plans for collaboration and follow-up.
    1. Reconcile discipline log referrals with PowerSchool (school database)
    2. Participate in data-collection meetings to ensure accurate district reporting of discipline incidents
  6. Supports the Hazing, Harassment, and Bullying investigations, as Designated Employees of BHS
    1. Interview identified and parties of interests
    2. Provide written documentation of the interviews to the Non-Discrimination Coordinator
    3. Works with the 
  7. Assist with controlling access to the buildings by monitoring staff, students, and visitor activity. Check identification when appropriate.
    1. Perform student intake at Student Support Center location(s).  
    2. Support and oversee front door coverage for entrance into the building.
  8. Respond to alarms (fire alarm, door alarm, etc.).
    1. Assist in directing students and faculty to safe areas during fire drills and other evacuations.
  9. Prepare and maintain reports, files, documents, reports, and required paperwork in a timely manner.
  10. Report to school officials if anything needs attention.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Education
    • Minimum Required: Associate's Degree with previous experience
    • Peferred: Bachelor's Degree 
  • Experience
    • Minimum Required: Four years of experience, preferably in a school setting. 

 

EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS/TERMS:

  • SALARY: This is a Hourly position paid Bi-Weekly .
  • CALENDAR YEAR: 10 months, 180 workdays (based on start date), upto 8 per day/40 per week
  • BENEFITS: Benefits eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start day. BSD Benefits!
  • PAID TIME: Sick Time / Personal Time As per the Master Agreement.
