Job Description

 

The candidate will be task oriented with demonstrated transformational leadership experience in an educational setting; evidence of organizational skills and project management; strong communication skills, and a desire to promote the academies.

 

Qualifications

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, Master’s degree preferred


Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license required or eligibility to obtain one


Experience:

  • A minimum of three to five years of successful teaching experience
  • Experience working with businesses, community agencies, and post-secondary institutions is preferred
  • Knowledge of Virginia Department of Education Curriculum Standards and Assessments  
  • Knowledge of ACPS’ Multi-Tiered Systems of Support that includes the Tier I Instructional Framework
  • Knowledge of current research in instructional coaching, instruction that connects the  curriculum to the learner, teacher effectiveness, differentiated instruction, and best practices in instruction
  • Knowledge of culturally-relevant pedagogy and equitable practices that impact student outcomes

Essential Functions

  • Research, identify, and pursue grant opportunities aligned with academy objectives.
  • Serve as the contact person for business, community and post-secondary engagement for the academies
  • Attend corporate and partnership meetings for the purpose of networking, enhancing partnerships, and providing experiential learning opportunities for students
  • Promote and support the implementation and documentation of the National Standards of Practice (NSOP) for academy accreditation 
  • Serve as the liaison between the school and district Office of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership in developing and sustaining academies, including the development of budgets, purchase orders, and other requested information
  • In partnership with district and school leadership team, support the development and implementation of the Academies at Alexandria City strategic plan
  • Support the completion of action plans, calendars of events, and budgets for academies as established by academy teams
  • Coordinate and implement advisory boards in accordance with the advisory board bylaws
  • Coordinate with business partners and the Office of Community Partnerships to maintain accurate community investment data for official business and community partner involvement
  • Communicate academy information with district the Office of Communications, as well as communicates with them for general media inquiries
  • Coordinate academy related experiential learning experiences, including, but not limited to, field trips, job shadows, student internships, teacher externships, and guest speakers 
  • Work with counselors, team leads, and school administration to coordinate recruitment and registration of students
  • Collaborate with school administration and the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership to review the high school’s programs of study and recommend academy/program modifications
  • Attend scheduled academy leadership meetings
  • Collaborate with school leadership to organize and implement open houses and school tours
  • Regularly attend academy team meetings to provide support and counseling for academy initiatives
  • Serve as the point person for the Academies at Alexandria City ambassador programs (student and parent)
  • Promote and participate in academy-related professional learning communities within the high school
  • Collect, analyze, and communicate academy data (including academy enrollment, experiential learning, industry certifications, academy-related dual credit/dual enrollment, attendance, and graduation rate, among others)
  • Work with district and school administration on student engagement opportunities
  • Collaborate with the high school’s new teacher program(s) to on-board new teachers and school staff to the Academy model
  • As directed by the Executive and Campus Principal, engage in school leadership initiatives or other tasks assigned, such as serving on the master scheduling team or school leadership team, to align Academies at Alexandria City initiatives and protocols with school operations.

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
