Effective for the 2024-2025 school year a JROTC Army Instructor position exists within the Norristown Area School District. 

 

Under the supervision of the Senior Army Instructor (SAI)l, the Army Instructor plans and organizes JROTC instruction in ways to maximize student learning, employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students, including strategies to meet diverse student needs

 

Qualifications
  • CSPG 67 - Military Science Programs 7-12 Certification
  • Retired Army Non-Commissioned Officers/Warrant Officers
  • Knowledge of basic instructional techniques
  • Junior ROTC Instructor Certificate
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
  • Army Cadet Command Certification
  • Proficiency in Drill & Ceremony, Supply Management and Administrative Actions
  • Act 34 Clearance, Act 151 Clearance, FBI Clearance (self-paid)
  • Act 126 & Act 71 Completion Certificates
  • Drug Screening
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • To serve as the Junior Instructor of the ROTC program
  • To assist in the implementation of the Junior ROTC program and related activities
  • To wear the approved army uniform with authorized insignia and rank during all training sessions and all other times as directed by army regulations
  • To adhere to all military standards, policies and regulations outlined for ROTC Instructors by the US Army Headquarters Cadet Command
  • To assume responsibility for the distribution, collection and maintenance of all uniforms and equipment used in the ROTC program
  • To participate in instructor orientation training and refresher training as directed by the ROTC Cadet Command
  • To assist in maintaining accurate enrollment and attendance records for all Junior ROTC Cadets
  • To assist in preparation of instructional materials and equipment required in the Junior ROTC Cadet Commander
  • To adhere to all Norristown Board of Education policy guidelines
  • To assist in preparing an annual inventory of all materials, uniforms and equipment used in the ROTC Program to the Principal or designee and US Army ROTC Cadet Command
  • To perform other duties as may be directed by the school administrator
  • Instruct high school students in Grades 9-12 Leadership, Education and Training (LET) levels 1-4
  • Set the standard for appearance IAW AR 670-1
  • Implement and teach supply maintenance
  • Responsible for the hand receipt of all JROTC equipment and clothing
  • Act as the Senior Army instructor (SAI) in his/her absence
  • Assist SAI in curriculum development, school year syllabi, training calendar and coordination of community service activities
  • Attend summer camp, JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) annually
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
