TITLE: Media Literacy Teacher
TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time (1.0); 2024-2025 school year; salary per collective bargaining agreement, commensurate with experience and education (range: $56,870 - $116,384/year)
LOCATION: Middle School, Hopkinton, Massachusetts

The Media Literacy Teacher provides learning experiences in finding, using, producing and sharing information. Students will be provided with communication and collaboration skills that will enable them to acquire, produce and share information while also exploring the positive and negative impacts of digital media on their lives. While working in a cloud computing environment, the teacher will provide students with the opportunity to explore a variety of 21st Century skills, and help students understand what it means to be a responsible digital citizen.
DUTIES:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provides learning experiences that develop and support students' ability to become smart consumers of products and information through recognizing point of view, identifying different types of media, and identifying the role of media in our culture. Monitors students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate;
- Evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers, to increase student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn;
- Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to, the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning;
- Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for re-certification;
- Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed;
- Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered qualified for the position of Media Literacy Teacher, candidates must have/be:
- Licensed, or eligible for licensure in Digital Literacy/Computer Science, 5-12, or English, 5-8, or Library, All Levels, by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, to include Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement;
- Meets all Massachusetts Department of Education standards for Highly Qualified Teacher;
- Bachelor's Degree, Master’s preferred, from an accredited college or university, in a related field;
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults;
- Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies;
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate, and in conformity with state certification requirements.
