POSITION SUMMARY:
A career development mentor plays an important role in guiding individuals towards achieving their professional goals. This job entails providing personalized guidance and advice to help mentees develop their skills, enhance their knowledge, and expand their network. A successful mentor possesses extensive knowledge of various industries and career paths, enabling them to offer informed insights into potential opportunities. They closely evaluate mentees' skills, interests, and ambitions to create tailored action plans that outline specific steps towards achieving desired career milestones. Additionally, a career development mentor may assist with resume writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies. Through regular meetings and effective communication, they build strong relationships with mentees based on trust and respect. Ultimately, this role facilitates mentees in making well-informed decisions about their professional journey while offering support and encouragement throughout the process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Foster Positive Relationships: Establish and maintain cooperative, constructive, and genuine relationships with both students and faculty. Build rapport with students, empower mentees through knowledge transfer, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their professional future.
- Student Mentoring: The primary responsibility is to guide and support individuals in their professional growth and development. This entails assessing their strengths, interests, academic success and goals to create personalized career plans.
- Collaboration:. Actively engage in collaborative efforts with colleagues, to harness a diverse range of perspectives, experiences, and expertise to develop comprehensive strategies tailored to the specific needs of the student in question and maximize their potential for success.
- Class Support: Support the facilitating of workshops and training sessions to enhance employability skills such as communication, leadership, and problem-solving.
- Flexibility and Additional Responsibilities: Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in fulfilling responsibilities as determined by the vice principal or designee. Willingly undertake additional tasks or projects as needed to support the overall success of the career development program.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.). The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
