REPORTS TO:

Principal / Director of Athletics

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Coaches in various middle or secondary school athletic programs. To help each participating student achieve a high level skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

Promote sports in the schools and community.

Plan the assigned athletic program within the units established by approved budget.

 

Organize and supervise practices, competitions and events associated with athletic team.

 

Teach individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy and rules and regulations of the game.

 

Teach good sportsmanship, self-control and character to all athletes.

 

Check eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parent consent.

 

Provide students a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and general guidance.

 

Conduct learning experiences, with small groups of student athletes.

 

Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety, and welfare of student athletes.

 

Control access to school facilities opened for team practices.

 

Prepares budget request for consideration of principal and SBDM.

 

Oversees safety conditions, proper maintenance, and care of facility and equipment.

 

Perform other duties assigned by the principal or athletic director.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of:

 

Fundamentals of sports.

 

Health and safety regulations.

 

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

 

Ability to:

 

Work with all types of students.

 

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

 

Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

 

Communicate effectively with students, faculty, parents, media and the community.

 

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

 

A valid teaching certificate in the state of Kentucky, or any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law, or 64 semester hours from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to certified individuals.

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

 

Coaching certification class conducted by KHSAA (secondary coaching positions only, not required of middle school level positions.)

A criminal records check, AIDS awareness training, and current certification in first aid and CPR.

Head Coach / Principal / Director of Athletics

 

BASIC

FUNCTION:

 

Assist coaches in various middle or secondary school athletic programs. Assist in helping each participating student achieve a high level skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

 

REPRESENTATIVE

DUTIES:

 

Assist coaches in daily and long-range athletic activities.

 

Assist coaches in planning the athletic program.

 

Conduct learning experiences, under the direction of the head coaches, with student athletes.

 

Assist coaches in guiding participants toward a harmonious team spirit.

 

Assist in providing assistance, and supervision to athletes during periods of team travel, competition and events associated with athletic team.

 

Recommend to the head coach the purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety, and welfare of student athletes within approved budget.

 

Perform other duties assigned by the Head Coach, Principal or Athletic Director.
