Pathologist: Speech Language

JOB SUMMARY
Provides comprehensive speech-language services including assessment, therapy, and instruction for students with speech-language disabilities services in their natural environments. Serves as a member of the school Individualized Education Program (IEP) and the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) team. Consults/collaborates with other school personnel in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of services provided. The position may be 10 or 12 months depending on assignment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides therapy instruction to students with speech/language disabilities as stated in the IEP and the IFSP. Acts as a lead to teaching assistants who support the instruction of students with communication disabilities.
- Develops lesson plans, instructional materials and provides individualized and group instruction to meet the needs of each student. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to achieve a functional learning atmosphere. Consults and confers regularly with colleagues regarding the educational, social, physical, or emotional goals and objectives of students.
- Assesses the progress of students on a regular basis utilizing tests, measurements and observation skills and/or modified-adapted assessment devices. Conducts speech/language assessments as part of a comprehensive evaluation and provides progress reports as required.
- Assists in the planning and development of student IFSPs/ IEPs. Provides consultation and support to other service providers regarding implementation of IFSPs/IEPs, reasonable modification, etc.
- Facilitates the implementation of special education and related services in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and assists in organizing and implementing a continuum of appropriate services in the LRE.
- Completes all necessary paperwork for billable medical assistance services.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records, case files, etc., as required by program regulations, Board policies and Federal, state, and local laws.
- Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings, parent conferences and IEP/IFSP meetings and professional development.
- Provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives, methods of instruction and consults regarding materials of instruction (MOI), equipment, and instructional strategies appropriate for students with speech/language disabilities.
- Travels throughout the county to provide services in home, community, and school-based settings during normal business hours.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- Master's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college and university required.
Experience
- Clinical Fellowship (CF) and/or Speech Language Pathology experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Knowledge of current trends, research, principles, and practices of Speech-Language Pathology as applied to children and the school situation.
- Knowledge of school system organization and operation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with and to gain the confidence and cooperation of: students, parents, school staff, and medical agency personnel.
- Ability to interpret and provide/supervise appropriate speech/language services within an educational environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.
- Demonstrated ability to engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child’s education experience.
- Ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse communities.
- Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
- Hold or be eligible for Speech and Language Pathologist License issued by Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers and Speech Language Pathologists required.
- Hold or be eligible for Speech and Language Pathology Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) Certification issued by American Speech-Hearing-Language Association (ASHA) required.
- Within 10 days, obtain National Provider Identifier (NPI) issued by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) required.
- Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required.
- Daily access to reliable transportation.

- Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.

Employee must retain active enrollment, affiliations, and memberships as a condition of employment.
- Actively enrolled in Maryland Medicaid required;
- Upon receipt of NPI, immediate enrollment in Maryland Medicaid required.
