Tutors will work with small groups of middle or high school students during the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) elective and Excel classes during the school day during on under the supervision of the AVID teacher. During the AVID tutorial, tutors will facilitate small group inquiry-based support with groups of a 1:6 ratio or less around content subject matter. Tutors will be required to attend training in order to learn and be able to utilize the AVID learning strategies and the Tutorial process while tutoring between 2-4 days per week, or approximately 14-25 hours per week, based on the school schedule, site needs, and tutor availability and flexibility.  Tutors may be asked to support tutorials for schoolwide programming beyond the AVID class. College students are highly encouraged to be a part of this program.  Priority will be granted to those who can meet the hours necessary to support the elective class schedule. Former tutors will be retained based on AVID Elective teacher input.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Assists students in their learning by facilitating inquiry-based content tutorials using a defined tutorial learning process and other AVID strategies through small collaborative groups.
  2. Collaborates with middle school and/or high school faculty and other tutors to support and build the AVID Schoolwide system.
  3. Assists students in maintaining their AVID binders/ e-binders, Focused Notes, planning tools, Tutorial Request Forms, and/or Scholar Group Forms (TRF/SGF) that support academic classes.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned by the AVID elective teacher or site coordinator.
