Job Description
Plan, design, construct, repair, install and maintain District Buildings, equipment and furnishings in compliance with current building codes. Perform regular preventive maintenance on a variety of building components. Prepare estimates, orders and work schedules, and maintain comprehensive computerized maintenance records via Asset Essentials work order system.
This position reports to the Maintenance Support Supervisor.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma, completion of G.E.D, or equivalent school, or short-term courses in commercial buildings
Certificates & Licenses: Forklift & scissor lift certification
Experience: Four (4) plus years including three (3) years of experience in rough and finish carpentry, flooring, drywall and general construction/building maintenance
Essential Functions
- Construct, install, relocate, remove and/or repair District buildings, equipment and furnishings including: wall, cabinets, doors, shelving, countertop & furniture. Replace, attach, move and repair classroom aids and equipment. Install various mounted equipment, dry erase & bulletin boards, and smartboards.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, material used and time spent on projects using the computerized work order system
- Coordinate work with other tradesmen, as needed
- Attend work and arrive in a timely manner.
- Identify and make immediate emergency repairs.
- Meet with staff, provide design ideas and estimates on materials and labor for small remodeling projects. Work with Planning and Design and Construction staff, if needed
- Perform and track regular preventative maintenance
- Identify and schedule repairs to a variety of windows, doors or other with vendors for repairs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements/Skills
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 70% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in some hazardous conditions. Oral written communication, and computer skills are necessary to complete the core functions of this job. Customer service and public relation skills are also necessary as this role requires interaction with ACPS staff in schools and at central office. This job requires the ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, to lift 50 lbs or more, and climb ladders. The knowledge of Building Codes, OSHA, ADA, State & local codes and Policies are also required. Lastly, this job requires the ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
This position is considered emergency essential and the employee will be required to report to work regardless of weather or school conditions.
