JOB SUMMARY
Performs screening and comprehensive speech and language evaluation of children suspected of having a disability as defined by IDEA. Work involves the administration of tests, assessing student performance form a variety of means, including observation, parent report, and other assessment tools. Counsels with parents, teachers, and administration regarding student performance. Conducts meetings, completes reports, collects relevant data and performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers a battery of speech and language assessments utilizing all pertinent resources.
  • Administers, analyzes and interprets results of tests.
  • Develops Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for students who require special education and/or related services.
  • Assists in making placement recommendations in consideration of natural and least restrictive environments.
  • Utilities normative data and analyzes test findings in the interpretation of diagnostic data.
  • Prepares written assessment reports for student summarizing significant findings.
  • Develops and coordinates an evaluation schedule for students recommended for assessment through the special education Part B process.
  • Conducts follow-up conferences with parents and school staff to assist in making recommendations and further actions.
  • Partners with school-based and multi-disciplinary evaluation team.
  • Works with outside agencies to coordinate assessment/evaluation data.
  • Maintains data including but not limited to the number of students assessed, placed into special education, and other related data.
  • Maintains accurate and current records on each student served.
  • Assists in implementing collaborative activities with other professionals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education

  • Certification in speech and Language Pathology as required by Maryland State Department of Education required.

Experience

  • Two (2) years successful teaching/therapy experience required.
  • experience working with children Birth to Five preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities as a member of a multi-disciplinary assessment team.
  • Ability to use technology (laptops, desktops specialized assessment and data analysis software).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Outlook and/or PowerPoint preferred).
  • Ability to comply with the AACPS policies, procedures and guidelines established by the Division of Special Education.

Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

  • Hold or be eligible for National Provider Identifier (NPI) issued by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) required.
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.

Employee must retain active enrollment, affiliations, and memberships as a condition of employment.

  • Must be actively enrolled in Maryland Medicaid. Employee not holding NPI or Maryland Medicaid enrollment upon hire must apply for NPI within 10 days of employment and Maryland Medicaid immediately upon receipt of NPI. Employee must retain active NPI and Maryland Medicaid enrollment as a condition of employment.
