Position Summary

A Research Technician II position is available at the Department of Oral Biology, School of Dental Medicine, UB. The laboratory conducts research in the areas of microbiology and genomics.

Position duties will include:

  • Extraction and purification of nucleic acids from cultures and clinical samples ( DNA , RNA).
  • Performing experiments involving basic microbiology, molecular biology and biochemistry techniques as required by laboratory projects.
  • Cultivation and maintenance of various microbial strains.
  • Ordering and management of laboratory supplies.
  • Assist PI with administration of research projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires an Associate's degree or two years formal training in subject matter directly related to the project or program and at least 3 years of experience directly related to the project or program.
  • Prior experience working in a research laboratory and ability to work independently.
  • Competence in molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA extraction and qPCR.
  • Experience working with word, excel, power point and a basic imaging software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences or related field.
  • Ability to troubleshoot laboratory protocols.
